The city lies at the heart of the wider City of Winchester, a local government district, and is located at the western end of the South Downs, along the course of the River Itchen. An interesting Fullers pub with school desks from the local college for some seating. You need to be schoolboy sized to sit in these! Retrace your steps down Kingsgate road, passing the Wykeham Arms and  turning right into College Street. You will pass the house where Jane Austen spent the last weeks of her life.  Carry on in the same direction . Round the bend in the path pointing right you can follow the sign to St Giles Veiwpoint and visit the amazing Black Boy Pub.

The pub has 5 locally brewed real ales and a small selection of good French wines.  Good 'pub grub' is available from Tuesday evenings through to Sunday lunch.  During the winter months roasts are served on Sundays with  lighter lunches being offered during the summer.
