Thatcham is a town in Berkshire, England. It is located 3 miles east of Newbury and 15 miles west of Reading. Often regarded as Britain's oldest town, Thatcham covers about 8.75 square miles. It lies on the River Kennet, the Kennet and Avon Canal, the A4 road and the course of a Roman road. It is also served by Thatcham railway station on the line between London Paddington and Bedwyn. Distance 1.9 miles. Walk time 37 minutes.

Turn left out of the Kings Head to walk along the shops. Keep to the left fork to reach the Old Chequers.

Good selection of reasonably priced food. Doom Bar ale. The pub is on a large corner site with a nice garden. Surprisingly it was almost empty of customers at lunchtime.

Turn left out of the Old Chequers and follow left into Station Road. Follow Station Road through various junctions and mini roundabouts to the station (20mins) You will see the Swan as you near the station.

Retrace your steps down Station Road until you can turn right into Stoney Lane at the third roundabout. Stay on Stoney Lane to the end to find the Plough on your left.
