This walk take you from Castle Street round to St Aldates, Christchurch  and then down to the River Thames. Select the pictures for larger views.

Turn left out of the pub and walk up to the "T" junction. Cross on the crossing and turn right. Walk on past Bonn Square into Queen Street to the Carfax Tower. Cross Cornmarket Street into High Street. Pass the entrances to the covered market to soon reach the Mitre.

From the Mitre cross on the crossing outside, and turn right to soon reach the Chequers, down the second narrow on your left. (not the first alley, this is the Wheatsheaf)

Much of the interior of the pub dates from the 1500s when an old tenement belonging to a moneylender was rebuilt as a tavern. 131 High Street. OX1 4DH  Open from 11am.

Walk back up the alley to the High Street, turn left and then left again into St Aldates. St Aldates Tavern is on your right.

A good range of ales and a new food offering. The pub was originally owned by Courage. It was refitted and run by Wychwood as The Hobgoblin and then by a pubco.
