Lancaster is the county town of Lancashire, England It is situated on the River Lune and has a population of 45,952. Long existing as a commercial, cultural and educational centre, Lancaster is the settlement that gives Lancashire its name. Lancaster has several unique ties to the British monarchy; the House of Lancaster was a branch of the English royal family, whilst the Duchy of Lancaster holds large estates on behalf of Elizabeth II, who herself is also the Duke of Lancaster.

From the back of the pub turn right up a short slope to the bridge. Turn left to cross the bridge along Quarry Road to the city centre. Continue on into George Street and then turn right into pedestrianized Penny Street. The Brown Cow is just before the crossroads on the left.

Continue along Spring Garden Street to King Street and turn left. Walk down King Street to the Penny Street Bridge on your right.

Cross the Canal Bridge and turn right down the slope to the towpath. Continue to soon reach the Water Witch.
